Girls Generation - I Got A Boy - Review

So lets start this blog off with a K-pop review of:

Girls Generation [SNSD] - I Got a Boy
So SNSDs fifth album was released on January 1, 2013, it's title track I Got A Boy MV was also released on this date. Here are my thoughts and opinions on the song in general:

Overall, I have to say the song is different from the typical SNSD song style; SNSD usually expresses the cute yet catchy K-pop style. However, in this song they change to more of a "grown-up" style where there is even to the extent of rapping. Although I am not saying it is bad, I personally really like the song, however, it took some time for it to grow on me...like 24 hours xD...but still it is actually a really good song. At first when listening to the song i thought it was awkward on how the songs sound changes throughout, like at one point it will sound very upbeat and catchy, and the next it goes to calming  and next it would go back to another type of upbeat, however, after listening to it a few times, it seems to show that the overall background beat stays the same, it does not change throughout the song, the only thing that actually changes is just how the girls are singing, which is great because it shows the real singing talent of all the girls.
Also, this is the first time SNSD has included a rap in their song, and i personally think the rap part is amazing (starting at 2:58 from the Music Video). Usually, many people consider rap being very powerful and loud, however, SNSD takes rap to a whole different level. They show that rap does not just have to be screaming, yelling, or loud. I really applaud YonnA and Hyoyeon for that amazing rap portion.

Lyrics:
In terms of lyrics, I am absolutely astounded by them. Although, I do not understand Korean, after reading the English lyrics I was totally shocked. The lyrics of the song are in 3rd person, making them look as if they are having a conversation within the song. Honestly, i didnt know such an amazing song could be made from 3rd person. I applaud SNSD and SM for making a song sound so amazing yet in 3rd person. That is just Genius.

Dance:
The dance for I Got A Boy was surely something else. The moves were very complex and very well done. Again, it is different from their usual dance style, with one main move that people can usually copy, like in Gee, Mr. Taxi, The Boyz, there is always that one move that is very simple to copy and dance; in I Got a Boy it is more complex, and i'm sure you could find a move that is most popular in the song, but it is just a little different from other songs, its just that the complexity and difficulty of the dance is very high, but still very amazing! Again, there will be people and fans who will not like it, but it is a somewhat new concept for SNSD, if you're not a fan of it, just watch a few live performances or the MV a few times and im sure you will begin ti like it. Overall, Good Job SNSD!

Music Video:
The concept of the Music Video is a little different from their usual cute concept and for me it is still a little awkward  but i feel like this concept of theirs is defiantly growing on me. I have seen and herd many other people do not like the song nor the video because of this dramatic change of concept and look of SNSD, but all i have to say is, it is good for a change once in a while, it's not good for them to always keep the cute concept, i like how they are taking on new challenges with different concepts. Moreover, i feel that the talents of each SNSD member is really being shown in this video, since now it looks like each member has an equal amount of lines, there is not a rap section, still a place for the dancing queen, and many spots for really amazing voices. Therefore, i think SM has defiantly gave audience what they want from SNSD. I applaud you again SM!
